NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING AND EVALUATION TECHNIQUES DIVISION

This division develops non-destructive methods by electrical, magnetic, optical acoustic waves processes and ionizing radiation applied to the characterization and evaluation of materials, defects and coatings.

In addition, it studies and optimizes equipment, software related to non-destructive testing by electrical, magnetic or acoustic processes.

The topics currently developed are:

  • Non-destructive characterization of metallic materials, composites, nanostructures and others by: Ultrasound (volume waves, guided waves, Lamb waves), eddy currents, microwaves, Barkhausen noise, high sensitivity hysteresis cycles, X-rays gamma rays ...;
  • Studies of acoustic wave propagation phenomena in materials.
  • Mechanical spectroscopy of materials, vibrational spectroscopy (Raman, infrared ..);
  • Sensors (ultrasonic, magnetic (eddy currents, electromagnet for Barkhausen noise), microwaves);

The division has established a calibration laboratory of NDT equipment’s for the industry. This laboratory, which is being accredited according to ISO /17025, aims to verify and calibrate NDT equipment (ultrasonic devices, ultrasonic thickness gauges, sensors, densitometers, Eddy current equipments and X-ray generators).
