Diagnosis of arc plasmas and laser-generated plasmas [2016-2018]

The project aims to study and analyze thermal plasmas generated during certain industrial processes such as welding, electric furnaces, the deposition of thin layers in the processes of sterilization and elimination of toxic waste. Particular attention will be given to thermal plasmas generated during welding processes such as gas-shielded arc welding, TIG, MIG-MAG and plasma welding as well as plasmas generated during the laser welding process and the control of Thin films by Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) processes and provide this information in the form of synergies.
The diagnosis of these thermal plasmas makes it possible to determine the parameters of their operation. The correlation of these operating parameters will facilitate the understanding of the physical phenomena governing their operation and therefore controlling these types of plasma during industrial applications. The spectroscopic diagnosis is a powerful tool for the diagnosis and the characterization of plasmas. More over it allows the measurement of their operating parameters such as the temperature, the electronic density; subsequently it would be able to go up to the transport coefficients: the electrical conductivity, the conductivity thermal as well as viscosity. The spectroscopic diagnosis is completed by electrical diagnosis and rapid imaging. The correlation of the results of these diagnoses will allow better control of these arcs and the establishment of synergies improving the efficiency and effectiveness of these industrial processes.
