Coatings and surface treatment

Evaluation and corrosion protection of metallic materials by coatings [2016-2018]

Corrosion is one of the phenomena that can damage the stability of a system and its consequences are serious on the economic level.

In aggressive solution rich in water and corrosive or oxidizing substances, corrosion is generally observed, but this type of corrosion must be determined.

Passive protection through the development of coatings ensures optimal protection of the material.

In this project, in the first place, we will study the phenomena of corrosion by electrochemical methods, studying the electrochemical behavior of various metallic materials such as low alloy steels, stainless steels, titanium alloys and aluminum alloys.

Secondly, we are interested in the development and characterization of anti-corrosion protective layers. These layers will be developed in two ways chemical or physical (ELECTROLYTIC, SOL GEL, ...).

Preparation of coating of the materials with protective films prevents their degradation, for different application such as: aerospace, petroleum, biomaterials and cutting tools.

The newly developed materials sometimes possess physicochemical properties that are different in many ways from those of massive materials. The chemical nature, the morphology and the crystallographic structure are indeed strongly linked to the interaction between the material to be deposited and the substrate.
