Corrosion Inhibitor

Study protective performance of non-toxic inhibitors against corrosion of metallic materials in aggressive aqueous media [2013-2015]

Corrosion is a tragic industrial problem, it is not only wasteful of raw materials, it can also cause major economic and human losses and irreparable ecological tragedies. So implementation of methods of protection is essential to preserve functional structures. In terms of protection, inhibitors are a convenient and economical way to fight against corrosion. The objective of this research is to study the protective performance against corrosion of metallic materials such as ferrous alloys (steel, cast iron ...) in aggressive aqueous medium, by non-toxic inhibitory substances.
The first part of this project focuses on the study of metallurgical and electrochemical behavior of materials in aggressive aqueous media. In fact, in this part, we look for a correlation between the microstructure of the alloy and its electrochemical behavior (its resistance to corrosion), as well as the influence of some hydrodynamic parameters such as temperature, agitation, medium concentration corrosive on the speed of corrosion.
The second part is to search for new corrosion inhibitor formulation, namely chemical substances (non-toxic) to reduce the corrosion rate. The study of inhibitory substances can be performed by different measurement methods, namely the gravimetric and electrochemical methods, in both stationary (potentiostatic polarization curves ...) and transient (electrochemical impedance measurements) these usual techniques, the surface characterization methods, such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) will be associated.
